West End Festival 2011
Bright sunshine brought many local people to the West End Festival on Saturday 23rd July.
Volunteers from Pomocna Dlon and Morecambe Bay Polonia cooked a range of Polish food using many ingredients produced locally, including eggs, mushrooms and vegetables.
The tent was filled with laughter and many compliments as people tried meat from the Polish butchers shop with Wioletta, the owner on hand to talk about her produce. People loved the moistness of the carrot and beetroot cake, Sernik (cheesecake) sold out immediately and Drozdzowka (strawberry buns) and Makowiec (poppy seed cake) were firm favourites. Accompanying the meat were the traditional Polish savouries, Pierogi (cabbage and mushroom dumplings) and Krokiety (pancakes stuffed with cabbage and mushrooms)
“The Polish community is such a big part of our life here in Morecambe and it was brilliant to be able to show off some of the skills. The food is delicious and it was fun to see suspicion turn to pleasure when people tried the food they were not familiar with.”
“This is the best stall here! Congratulations!” said one happy customer.
