About Us
What is NCBI?
The National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) is a not-for-profit leadership training organisation. Established over 25 years ago, NCBI has been working to eliminate discrimination on the grounds of nationality, race, gender, religion, class, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, occupation or life circumstance. We achieve this through the delivery of training courses and workshops which teach practical tools which can be used in the workplace, community and daily life.
NCBI currently has active teams in London, Leicester, Nottingham and Lancaster District and a number of organisation-based leadership teams in schools, local authorities, government agencies and voluntary organisations. The British Isles region is part of an international network of 70 city-based teams from Switzerland, Bosnia and South Africa to Washington DC.
Since 1998, NCBI in Britain has continually won British Diversity Awards for Best Diversity Practice. The Mandela International Award was also awarded to NCBI in the British Isles.
Is NCBI training what you need?
No matter who you are, NCBI will offer you an insight into the sources of discrimination and help you gain new skills which will make a real impact on the people you work with, your life and the lives of your friends and family. You may have responsibility for managing diversity in your business or organisation; may work in the community; may be an individual interested in diversity issues or maybe you want to handle conflict resolution and bullying issues more successfully.
About our courses
Our training combines teaching practical tools and skills development through nurturing self-awareness. The focus of our training is to enable participants to take what they have learnt back into the ‘real’ world and use it. Participants are encouraged to take pride in their identities and experiences. We have discovered that finding common ground with others we may perceive as ‘different’ provides a powerful, experiential learning opportunity. Practical hands-on skills are taught in large group sessions and all participants have a chance to practice these skills with coaching from experienced workshop leaders. Our three-day course expands even more on mastering these skills in small groups as well as with the whole workshop.
Which course?
We run a series of courses aimed to meet the different needs of participants. We recommend that you begin by attending the one-day Welcoming diversity and prejudice reduction workshop. If this leaves you feeling that you would like to develop your skills and knowledge a little further, you could attend our three-day Prejudice reduction leaders’ training, which will enhance what you learnt at the one-day workshop.
Attending the three courses will also give you the skills necessary to cascade your learning to others, either at your place of work or in your community. Where necessary, NCBI can support you to cascade the training.
