West End Festival 2011

Bright sunshine brought many local people to the West End Festival on Saturday 23rd July.

Volunteers from Pomocna Dlon and Morecambe Bay Polonia cooked a range of Polish food using many ingredients produced locally, including eggs, mushrooms and vegetables.

Polish Christmas Event 2010

On the 7th of December, Pomocna Dlon organized an art event with the kids from the Polish Saturday School in Lancaster. The event was attended by over 30 children with teachers.

Tastes of Central and Eastern Europe – Blackpool

On the 9th Oct 2010 NCBI Pomocna Dlon had a stall at Tastes of Central and Eastern Europe in Blackpool. This was the first event like this in the North West and was attended by over 600 people. There were Slovenian, Slovak, Lithuanian, Czech, Latvian and Polish stands presenting different European food, art, music and films.

Language Exchange

At 2pm on a sunny Saturday morning in August Polish and English people welcomed people from NCBI Nottinghamshire for a language exchange. The diverse Nottinghamshire team include people from Sri Lanka, Iraq, Korea and Afghanistan. Food was shared (Korean pancakes; Asian sweetmeats; Polish traditional cakes and English sausage rolls and pastries) Then the language exchange began!

Community Lunches – Morecambe

Polish and English people were invited to our first community lunch at Trinity Methodist Church on August 7th. Twenty people attended including students learning English at Trinity’s ESOL classes, members of the Soroptomists and people from the local community – both Polish and English.

Chill out Tuesday – Lancaster

In partnership with The Dukes Theatre in Lancaster, NCBI Lancashire hosted a Polish band playing a mix of Polish traditional songs (including Blues, Latin, Beatles and the Rolling Stones) in the Dukes bar on Tuesday the 23rd March 2010. The band called The Polish Repper Drum Band featured Jacek Chrzuszcz on keyboard and drums, Derek Brown on guitar and trumpet with Maciej Kaszubowski on guitar and vocals.

Father Christmas flies in from Poland

On St Nicholas Eve, Father Christmas visited 70 Polish children during the Pomocna Dlon Christmas party, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Westgate. The event hosted by NCBI Lancashire was a celebration of Polish and English traditions, including traditional Polish food; carols in English and Polish sang by children from the Lancaster Polish Saturday school and traditional English and Polish customs explained by Sister Christina and staff from NCBI.
